FARSLEY Celtic Juniors are second in the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division after their 4-0 victory at Stanningley Old Boys.

Neither side were at their best but two goals in each half - from Ben Wilson and Ryan Collett and then Josh Maskill and leading scorer Danny Lyons - proved the difference.

Juniors are a point behind Stanley United, with both teams having played 11 matches.

Grangefield Old Boys eased their relegation fears with an outstanding 4-1 home victory over St Nicholas, courtesy of Kristian Dacre and Tom Hall in the first half and Matty Tomlinson and Keelan Milner in the second half.

The key now for ninth-placed Grangefield is to get away from their win one, lose one sequence.

Improving Calverley United made visitors Drighlington work hard on a heavy pitch for their 2-1 victory in the Championship Division.

Sam Thorpe and Ryan Rhodes were on target for Drig in the second half, with Joel Binns replying in the 75th minute.

Drig, who have only dropped two points in nine matches, are now fourth, six points behind leaders Mt St Mary's with four matches in hand, while Calverley are eighth but still in danger of going down.

Third-placed Leeds Independent were missing both of their central defenders and conceded three early goals at leaders Gildersome Spurs Old Boys in Division One.

However, they pulled the score back to 3-2 before Spurs grabbed a fourth. On the mark for Spurs were Ben Keedy (2), Mike Hall and Ashley Brookes.

St Bede's, who arrived late and were intially disjointed, are second after a 3-0 victory at cellar dwellers Rothwell, but are three points behind Spurs having played two games more.

Jarad Peltier's first goal of the season, plus strikes by Nick Scullion and Nathan Bailey put Bede's in charge before half-time.

Much-changed Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves lost 2-1 at Huddersfield YMCA, making it eight defeats in a row.

Idle, who are second in Division Two, had a superb 2-0 win at sixth-placed Morley Town.

Jack Strudwick and Aaron Irving - his 23rd league goal of the season - were on target for Idle, who are six points behind Collegians with three games in hand.

Fairbank United drew 4-4 at Farnley Sports Reserves in Division Three, leaving them eight points behind leaders East Ardsley having played two matches less.

A clinical finish by Shoaib Hussain made it 1-1 but United suffered either side of half-time, conceding three goals before Hussain, Ibrahim Khan and skipper Usman Amir stuck to earn them a point.

The equaliser was controversial, however, as the ball struck Hussain's arm before it was bundled home from a yard out.

St Bede's Reserves trailed 5-0 at second-placed Shire Academics Thirds in Division Five before Brandon Hammond and Mick Duggan reduced the arrears.

St Bede's drop back into the bottom two, while fifth-placed Drighlington equalised twice, the last goal coming 30 seconds from the end, in their 2-2 draw at home to Methley United.
