GRANGEFIELD Old Boys gave their hopes of avoiding relegation from the Yorkshire Amateur League Premier Division a significant boost with a 6-3 victory at Beeston St Anthony's.

Second-from-bottom Grangefield took the lead with a looping 30-yard effort from the touchline by James Kemp that could have been a cross or a shot, and kept their advantage up to half-time thanks to a great save by Craig Wainwright.

It then rained goals in the second half, with St Anthony's scoring twice in quick succession to lead before Kemp equalised and 'Tommo' Tomlinson netted a brace in the 68th and 75th minutes.

Nick Smith then converted a spot kick to make it 5-2 after a soft penalty award.

Beeston then scored a third before they were caught on the break in the last minute by Kristian Dacre to end what was a thoroughly entertaining second half.

After the demise of Wigton Moor, third-placed Farsley Celtic are seven points behind new leaders Stanley United but have two games in hand.

Celtic hammered new cellar dwellers Trinity Old Boys 8-0, courtesy of leading Golden Boot contender Danny Lyons (4), Joe Firth (2), Louis Surtees and Loz Patterson.

In-form Stanningley Old Boys are up to sixth after their 2-1 win at fading Ealandians, who have only picked up a point from their last three league matches.

Stanningley, however, have now on three wins and a draw in their last four, Terrell Phillips and Tom Stewart giving them a 2-0 half-time lead before Ealandians replied with 20 minutes left.

Fourth-from-bottom Calverley United, who have already played 15 matches, lost their Championship Division relegation clash 1-0 at Shire Academics, with all of the teams below United having at least three games in hand.

In Division One, St Bede's have climbed a notch to second after a 4-1 home victory over lower mid-table Garforth Rangers.

Bede's had lost their previous two, but man of the match Nathan Bailey put them ahead with a neat finish and a powerful Saul Peltier made it 2-0.

The latter then missed a sitter before making it 3-0 with a volley while lying on his back!

Rangers then scored and missed a sitter of their own but Tawheed Ahmed swept home Bede's fourth in a match that was well refereed by Sarah Lawn.

In Division Three, Norristhorpe took the lead at Farnley Sports Reserves but needed to equalise at 2-2 and 3-3 before losing 5-3, goals for the losers coming from Harrison Joyce, Dan Gannon (penalty) and Jak Oldroyd.

Drighlington Reserves are up to fifth in Division Five following their 3-2 home win against third-from-bottom Woodkirk Valley Reserves, who went ahead.

James Snelgrove, Charlie Leather and Jonny Lakin netted for Drig, who have won five of their last six.

Despite two goals from Brandon Hammond, bottom-of-the-table St Bede's Reserves lost 3-2 at Norristhorpe Reserves, foiling the old boys' bid for a third league win of the season.

Zach Wood, Brad Wild and George Woodcock netted for Norristhorpe, who have shot up to sixth in a congested mid-table.
