WYKE Wanderers Reserves were hammered 8-1 at Horbury Town Reserves – a result that leaves Wyke third from bottom of Alliance Division One in the West Yorkshire League.

Despite losing several players and being let down by absentees shortly before kick-off, Wanderers gave a very poor performance, conceding a needless penalty just five minutes in.

They recovered to take the game to Horbury and, following an equaliser from Sam Digby, went in at half-time just 2-1 behind. But in the second half, too many Wyke players were off the boil.

When Horbury got their third goal, Wanderers fell apart and, but for a man-of-the-match performance from goalkeeper Alex Whitson-Smith, the hosts would have got double figures.

Field's reserve match against Huddersfield Amateur Reserves was postponed.

The Bradford & District Cup quarter-final between Athletico and Field was also off due to a waterlogged pitch, as was the Heavy Woollen & District FA Wheatley Cup tie between Lower Hopton and Wyke Wanderers.
