THE future of Bradford City Women is one with bags of potential – and this Sunday can serve as a reminder of that.

Seventeen-year-old Keavy Smith is on track to be the Bantams' next success story, and this weekend's County Cup clash with lower league Ossett Albion presents another opportunity for the winger to continue her, and the club's, development.

Since 16-year-old Molly Sharpe's breakthrough in 2013, City have had few qualms about age. As the saying goes, if you're good enough, you're old enough.

That rang true as Sharpe scored 28 goals in 49 games before securing a Stateside scholarship – a path several have followed her down since.

Smith is one of many promising youngsters who remain at the club though, and she hasn't hesitated to get one foot in the first team door.

"They have a lot more experience than me and give me lots of help and advice,” Smith said.

“I’m grateful for the opportunities I’ve been given at my age and I hope my hard work will pay off to give me more.”

Sunday will likely see Smith get another chance to impress.

The Bantams are pursuing a fourth successive County Cup title, and assistant player-manager Faye Boshell admits the games allow City to rotate a little.

"The early rounds always give us a great opportunity to look at players pushing towards the first team, but that doesn't mean we will be complacent," Boshell said.

"Integrating the young players with the first team is a massive thing at City and is something we thrive on. They are the future of the club," she added.

Smith only signed for City last term but has quickly become a regular with the reserves – also bagging a crucial goal in the 'A' Team's cup final victory in her debut senior campaign.

Now she's knocking on the first team door, serving as another reminder that this club has a fantastic future.

"Progression and development is our main focus and we wouldn't be able to achieve this without all the young talent coming through," Boshell said.

After earning the player of the match accolade in her full debut against Crewe last month, Sunday presents another great chance for Smith to continue her development – and to emphasise once again the promising future of Bradford City WFC.
