BRADFORD CITY'S league season, for all three senior teams, looks like being something of an anti-climax after a superb run since the turn of the year reaped rich rewards in cup competitions.

A midweek defeat at Blackburn Rovers, in their FA Premier League match at Ewood Park, was a great experience for the City first team but a long range goal from Rovers' Aimee Fleming, 20 minutes from time, settled it 1-0 in the home side's favour and ended the visitors' chances of leapfrogging them to a third-placed finish. Chances went begging as the woodwork and the home keeper kept City at bay. There is nothing but pride for Steve Winterburn's side to play for at Sporting Albion tomorrow, but there is certainly no lack of interest in the final game.

Albion are second in the table and need three points from the last two games to overhaul long-time leaders Preston North End and take the title.

Their final game of the season is at bottom club Loughborough Foxes, so even a win for City would leave the West Midlands side favourites to clinch the crown.

However, defeats for Guiseley Vixens and Nuneaton in their final games, both against against Newcastle, would leave Loughborough needing a win to avoid relegation in that final game. The Northern Division season is not over by any means!

A 4-2 defeat for the City reserve side at Leeds last week sees them take on lowly Stockport County tomorrow with a third-placed finish assured whatever the outcome.

The A team have had a disappointing finish to their West Riding League season after being forced to forfeit the game against First Division champions Battyeford and so denied the chance of promotion.

It has proved an unsatisfactory end to the season, with their last three games being walkovers due to a failure of one side or the other to fulfil fixtures.

There was better news for Bradford Park Avenue in the Premier Division as a 3-0 win over Brayton Belles in their final game ensured they would avoid the bottom spot and, with it, relegation. On target for Avenue were Laura Wolfenden, Katie Dormer and Natalie Bell.
