BRADFORD City travel to Basford to take on Nottingham Forest in what should be a tight mid-table encounter in the FA Womens Premier League Northern Section. City have dropped to sixth following a 2-2 draw with Blackburn Rovers last week and clubs around them winning but a win over Forest will see them leapfrog their hosts.

The Blackburn game proved disappointing with several crucial decisions going against them and a missed penalty contributing to their failure to put the game to bed.

After a goalless first half City's Sarah Danby was pulled down from behind by the Rovers keeper with the goal at her mercy just a minute after the restart but Chantelle O'Hara's penalty was then saved by the keeper, who was lucky to still be on the field.

Blackburn then took a 57th minute lead then four minutes later Shanna Legge was dismissed for a second yellow card, in the 73rd City are awarded a penalty for handball, Danby's kick is saved and Rosie McDonnell is then chopped down going for the rebound - a third penalty!

Thankfully for City Danielle Whitham took control of the situation and fired home the equaliser and ten man City then scored on the break through Hannah Campbell in the 83rd minute only to see Rovers hit back to take a point with a goal five minutes from time.

In the relegation battle at Nuneaton there was disappointment for Guiseley who went down 4-2 and are now in second bottom spot a point behind Nuneaton having played two games more.

Aimi Beresford gave Guiseley a lead in that game but the home side hit back to lead 4-1 and though Katie Anderton added a second 20 minutes from time it was little consolation.

The Division game between City and Stockport was postponed but Newcastle United beat leaders Blackburn Rovers to move into second place to set up a three way battle for the title and leave City with a season defining fortnight. Tomorrow they travel to Newcastle then next week they face Blackburn in the League Cup final.

Bradford Park Avenue have dropped into the bottom spot in the West Riding League Premier Division after a 5-1 defeat by Tingley Athletic, Anni Roberts scoring, and are now desperately in need of a result at an out of touch Ossett Town whose defeat by Gledhow left Avenue in dire relegation trouble.

In the First Division leaders Battyeford Belles look like holding off the challenge of Bradford City A, Silsden, at Wetherby this week, and Leeds Medics and Dentists to take the title but much will depend on the result of this week's clash between City and Battyeford as to who goes up with them.

City won 3-0 against Republica Internationale in their last game with goals from Kath Connell, Anni Nicol and Keavy-Grace Smith but with all three teams involved in crucial games this week it is a real test of the club's strength in depth.

BRADFORD Park Avenue are now bottom of the West Riding County Women's League Premier Division ahead of tomorrow's match with Ossett Town.

While Avenue were going down 5-1 to Tingley Athletic, Gledhow recorded a surprise 3-2 win over Ossett Town.

Annie Roberts scored for Avenue whose stand-in keeper Nic Chamberlain performed well.

Emily Holdsworth and Rebecca Teale helped Brighouse Athletic to a 2-1 win at Hepworth.

Bradford City A beat Republica Internationale to jump up to second in Division One, but are still eight points behind Battyeford.

Tyersal lost 4-0 to Brighouse Town Development, and will finish fourth in Division Two

Farsley Celtic are unbeaten in the North East Regional League's Southern Division after a 5-1 win at Harrogate. Keegan Lambert (3), Keeley Tottie and Helen Gresty were their scorers.
