DEPLETED Wyke Wanderers lost 4-1 against third-placed Leeds City in the Premier Division of the West Yorkshire League.

Nursing several injuries, Wyke started with three 16-year-olds on the bench against the title-chasing Leeds side.

Wanderers started brightly and competed well, with Gavin Turner and Craig Sheridan at the heart of the defence.

However, a mistake saw City going ahead before Wyke responded soon after when Sam Digby rounded the goalkeeper to equalise.

The first half finished with Wyke duo Martyn Hall and Rory Senior adding to an already growing injury list.

Things got worse in the second half when a tame shot at keeper Ben Sharp hit a bobble on the pitch to put Leeds 2-1 up, before they added two more goals in a blistering 15-minute spell.

Wyke secretary Dave Ryan reflected: "The display from the young substitutes gave us a lot of encouragement for the future."

Baildon Trinity Athletic played two matches in their effort to avoid getting relegated from Division One – but lost them both.

They travelled to Headingley and suffered a 4-2 defeat and then on Saturday lost 3-1 at home to Whitkirk Wanderers.

Baildon fell behind against Whitkirk but responded well and put the visitors under a lot of pressure with good combination play between left back Lee Newall and midfielder Sean McVey.

The pressure was soon to pay off with quick thinking by right back Lee Rands from a throw-in to the feet of striker Lee Mathers, who controlled the ball well before firing a volley home on the half-turn to level the scores.

Unfortunately it was the visitors who started the second period the better side and managed to get themselves ahead five minutes after the restart before adding a third goal.

Ben Baker scored a consolation for Field Reserves in their 2-1 Alliance Division One defeat at Beeston St Anthony's Reserves.
