ONLY two Yorkshire Amateur League matches in the Bradford area survived the awful weather on Saturday.

In the Premier Division, Farsley Celtic Juniors beat Trinity Old Boys 7-1 on a 4G pitch, which ensured it was the only game in the top three divisions to go ahead.

The result marked a fourth consecutive league win for Farsley, who took a two-goal lead with a superb team effort finished off by Liam Cannon with assistance from Ben Tempest and Chad Morris.

The second goal was a rarity for Ryan Collett and Trinity pulled a goal back before half-time thanks to Steve Travers to leave the interval score 2-1 in favour of Farsley.

Trinity battled hard in the opening period but a superb second-half display from Farsley enabled them to win comfortably on a day when seven individuals for the hosts finished on the scoresheet.

The third goal was a 20-yard cracker from Rob Cromack, with debutant Jordan Grimes adding the fourth. Also hitting the back of the net were the prolific Steve Wells, Paul Dockerty and Louis Surtees.

Farsley climbed to the top of the Premier Division by overtaking Medics, who are a point behind Farsley but have played a game more. Farnley Sports are third and lie five points behind Farsley with two matches in hand.

Champions Ealandians are seven points behind Farsley with three matches in hand, while Trinity OB remain seventh but now have six points from six matches.

As Trinity supremo Robbie Pearson said: "Chris Bowden got our man of the match because, as captain, he worked very hard in difficult circumstances.

"Even though it was a big defeat, I think we'll come back from this result."

In Division Two, Churwell Lions thumped Old Collegians 6-1.

It was Collegians' 10th defeat in their last 13 matches, their third on the trot and their fifth loss out of six attempts on the road.

Churwell are in fine fettle and were 3-1 up at half-time, with the goal for Collegians coming from their leading scorer Ryan Fuller.

The 3G pitch was barely playable and had to have water brushed off it during the match.

Collegians found the conditions dispiriting and, after conceding a fourth, they faded completely, with Churwell missing numerous chances.

On the other hand, Churwell are making great strides in their attempt to reach a promotion slot.

After losing their first two matches of the campaign, they have now gone seven matches without defeat – a run that includes six victories.

They are now two points behind local rivals Gildersome Spurs but have played one game more than Spurs.

The goals were well spread, with Luke Gough (2), Kieran Williams, Andy Megson, Ash Chapman and Lewis Hirst on target.
