BRADFORD City and Guiseley Vixens face a busy week in FA Women's Premier League (North) with two games in four days but both will embrace the task in confident mood after League Cup successes.

City ended Newcastle's perfect start with a 2-1 away win with goals from new signing Kate Nutter and the prolific Sarah Danby.

Although dominating much of the game, and leading 2-0 with nine minutes to go, a late goal from Newcastle threatened to make it an uncomfortable finale. But the City defence rounded off a sound display and held firm.

Next up for Steve Winterburn's side is a trip across the Pennines to Bamber Bridge, where they will take on Preston North End looking for more league points. City then return home to face newly-promoted neighbours Guiseley Vixens at Eccleshill United on Wednesday.

Vixens boss John Shirt was pleased to see coach Amanda Maslin-Barr lead the team to their first win of the season. They beat last year's promotion rivals Liverpool Marshalls Feds 1-0 after extra time at Nethermoor.

It was a close affair, with goalkeeper Danni Maslin performing particularly well for the home side. The deadlock was finally broken in the 115th minute when Bianca Ross retrieved the rebound after hitting the woodwork and set up skipper Aimi Beresford to force home.

The Vixens will be hoping their trip to Sporting Albion in the league tomorrow will bring another boost to their confidence ahead of that eagerly-anticipated derby clash.

Tomorrow also sees the start of the FA Women's Cup campaign as Harrogate Railway go to Sheffield United Community, Brighouse Athletic travel to Wakefield Ladies and Farsley Celtic are at Oughtibridge War Memorial Ladies in the first qualifiers.

Brighouse Town received a bye after opponents Ossett Albion folded before the start of the season.
