THACKLEY will be looking to take their knockout competition form into this weekend when they host Whickham as the FA Vase gets under way with the first qualifying round.

The Dennyboys have had a poor return in the league as, after winning their opening game of the season, they have lost the following four.

However, they have progressed through the first two rounds of the FA Cup by beating two sides higher up the Northern League set-up than tomorrow’s visitors, although Whickham are riding high in Division Two.

All five of the teams in this area that are eligible to play in the Vase are involved tomorrow, with four having home advantage, while Albion Sports find themselves on the road.

However, Kulwinder Sandhu’s men will only be making the short journey to Leeds to face Northern Counties East League Premier Division rivals Garforth Town.

League form will provide no pointers to that clash either as Albion have had a similar start to that of their hosts.

Eccleshill United have home advantage over Heaton Stannington – a side on the same level of the pyramid as they play their football in the Northern League second tier, and a goalless draw seems very unlikely.

In the three games the Eagles have played at home so far this term, they have scored an impressive 14 goals but conceded eight.

The Stan have scored 13 and conceded seven in their six league games.

Liversedge have a 100 per cent home record as they host Team Northumbria but Sedge lost their only other cup game this term, being beaten 4-0 in the FA Cup to Holker Old Boys in Barrow.

Silsden are at home but to a side that appear to travel well as Thornaby are unbeaten away in their league.

The Cobbydalers have won one and lost one in knockout football so far, but the one that they won was against one of Thornaby’s Northern League counterparts as they beat West Allotment Celtic 2-1 at the Angel Telecom Stadium.
