AFTER 11 games without defeat, Farsley Celtic Juniors Old Boys' title challenge in the Yorkshire Amateur League suffered what could be a mortal blow.

The second-placed Premier Division club lost 2-1 at mid-table Stanningley Old Boys after an embarrassing display, despite taking a first-half lead via John Mallinson.

In-form Stanningley, who played with a heart, desire and commitment that Farsley were lacking, revived with goals from Mark Wilson and James Mortimer.

Celtic are three points behind leaders Huddersfield Amateur with two games in hand but are vulnerable to third-placed Grangefield Old Boys, who are four points adrift with two games in hand, but more particularly fourth-placed Ealandians, who are six points behind with four games in hand.

Grangefield won 2-0 at home to Trinity Old Boys thanks to a superb free-kick from Grant Jackson and a clinical finish by Ritchie Banks.

Calverley United continue to be the whipping boys of the Championship Division, going down 3-0 at third-bottom Beeston St Anthony's.

Stanningley Old Boys Reserves remained fourth after a 2-0 victory at Shire Academics, courtesy of two exquisite goals from star man Luke Harrop.

Second-bottom St Bede's lost 3-0 at fifth-placed Garforth Rangers in Division One, while Gildersome Spurs Old Boys endured their sixth away match in their last seven when they went down 1-0 at bottom club Leeds Medics & Dentists Thirds.

Grangefield Old Boys Reserves lost 2-1 to Old Centralians, who thus notched their first home win of the campaign. Niall Coleman got the Old Boys' equaliser before Centralians nicked a last-minute winner.

Robbie Robinson got the only goal for St Bede's Reserves, who gave a spirited display in a 4-1 defeat at home to Wortley in Division Two but dropped to the bottom on the back of a 1-1 draw for Huddersfield YMCA at Leeds Medics & Dentists Fourths.

Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves and Bainbridge maintained their promotion push in Division Three, with second-placed Celtic defeating visitors Heckmondwike Grammar School Old Boys 4-1.

The opening goal for Celtic did not arrive until the 38th minute via a Ben Wilson header, with Louis Surtees glancing home the second 14 minutes later.

Although the old boys had a man sent off, Patrick Davis made it 2-1. But Steve Wells made it 3-1 in the 78th minute before the away team had another man dismissed for two yellow cards, Alex Gyte claiming the fourth goal.

Bainbridge, who won 4-0 at basement boys Middleton Park Reserves, are fifth. Goals came from Shoaib Hussain (2), Mohammed Khan and Navood Khan but man of the match was Akif Waseem.
