PREMIER Division title-chasers Farsley Celtic Juniors have the incredible dedication of a working party of 15 to thank for their victory over lowly visitors Rothwell in the Yorkshire Amateur League.

The gang removed six inches of snow off the pitch in two stints totalling ten hours between 3.30pm and 9pm on Friday and 8.30am and 1pm on Saturday, moving it far enough away to enable the game to go ahead.

The visitors had to make nine changes from the previous week due to illness, injuries and work and they were thrashed 11-2, with goals from Craig Farrand (3), Luke Gordon (3), Tom Ormondroyd (2), Rob McDougall, Andy Cooper and Ben Wilson. Brad Newsome and Ian Hutchinson replied.

Second-placed Farsley, who are hoping to become the first club from the league to reach the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup semi-finals when they travel to Leeds City next Saturday, are seven points behind Huddersfield Amateur with two games in hand.

This was a ninth straight defeat for second-bottom Rothwell, who have key games coming up against fellow strugglers FC Headingley and Wigton Moor.

Grangefield Old Boys are third from bottom in Division One but notched a shock 1-0 victory at wasteful promotion favourites St Nicholas, who are in West Riding County FA Trophy action next weekend against Tadcaster Magnet.

The goal was scored by Grant Jackson after 15 minutes in his first game back after serious injury and the old boys have now won three times away from home but have yet to break their home duck.

Bainbridge continued their great form against top-half opponents with a 3-2 victory at Ealandians Reserves in Division Three.

However, the visitors' forwards were rusty after three weeks off and spurned four clear-cut chances and only a superb save from Harris Butt, tipping a 35-yarder onto the bar, prevented Ealandians from leading before half-time.

Goals from Curtis Cochrane and the promoted Sam Dawtrey then put the hosts 2-0 ahead early in the second half.

Bainbridge began to pick their game up with 20 minutes remaining, Hassan Iqbal bending a delicious free-kick around the wall and into the far corner.

This inspired the visitors and they laid siege to the Ealandians goal, Shoaib Hussain netting a cheeky equaliser with a back-heel at the far post after good work by leading scorer Razziq Ali and 16-year-old substitute Hussain Iqbal.

With the hosts rocking, a speculative cross in the dying minutes sat up nicely for Iqbal, who smashed home the winning volley in a match that was played in excellent spirit and was well refereed by Chris Moore.

Bainbridge have moved up a place to fifth but are only five points behind third-placed Ealandians Reserves with three matches in hand.

Mid-table St Bede's Thirds helped Leeds City Old Boys Thirds move out of Division Six's bottom two by losing to them 6-2 away.

Mark Hayward and leading scorer Anthony Garner were on target for Bede's but this was not good preparation for their Hodgson Cup semi-final against Old Batelians Thirds at Carlinghow Hill on Saturday.

However, the latter team also lost – 4-2 at promotion-seeking North Leeds Reserves – to leave them with 12 points from as many outings.

In what was a tough-tackling encounter, Craig Marshall scored for the visitors in the 50th and 66th minutes, man of the match Jordan Ripley making the first and Russell Shaw the second.
