BRADFORD-based Bainbridge, who are seventh in Division Three of the Yorkshire Amateur League, gave Premier Division opponents Grangefield Old Boys a fright in their first-round Marflitt Trophy tie.

Bilal Saleem gave Bainbridge a 20th-minute lead with a cross-shot but hosts Grangefield, who are third in the top flight, levelled ten minutes later.

The free-scoring Razziq Ali restored the visitors' lead after good work by Irfan Khan but their Herculean defensive work went unrewarded as the Old Boys gained parity just before the interval.

Fitness then began to count as Grangefield went ahead in the 65th minute from a deep cross and Bainbridge conceded two more in quick succession before Ali again escaped his markers to reduce the arrears to 5-3 in a quality tie.

Farsley Celtic Juniors are up to second in the Premier Division after a 3-2 home victory over second-bottom Leeds Medics & Dentists Reserves but are only two points behind Huddersfield Amateur with a game in hand.

Ben Cook gave Juniors the lead just before the interval, chipping the Medics keeper from a narrow angle, and they made a tactical masterstroke in moving Luke Gordon from the left wing to the right as he tormented the Medics' left flank throughout the second half.

Craig Farrand made it 2-0 in the 83rd minute with a low, bending free-kick which sparked a goal flurry.

Medics made it 2-1 through Sam Bzeu but Farrand's glancing header made it 3-1 in the 87th minute.

Alex Howard reduced the arrears in the 90th minute and almost made Farsley pay for wasting well-created chances.

Calverley United were on the wrong end of fourth-placed Rodillians' best performance of the season, going down 5-1 at home in the Championship Division.

Chris Holdsworth netted for United, who have now lost their last two matches and have slipped to eighth after a lethal combination of defensive errors and missed chances at the other end.

Gildersome Spurs Old Boys led 2-0 at Colton Athletic, only to lose 8-4 in horrible conditions in Division One.

Spurs' goals came from top scorer James Hardcastle (2), Conor Firth and Greg Skelton.

Colton's fellow promotion rivals Garforth Rangers won 4-2 at St Bede's, halting the hosts' useful sequence of results.

Garforth raced into a 3-0 lead before Kyle McGinnis reduced the arrears, only for Rangers to make it 4-1.

Kris Balodis netted for Bede's two minutes into the second half but they were unable to convert other chances.

Third-placed Heckmondwike Grammar School Old Boys handed Almondburians, who are sixth, only their second league defeat of the season in Division Three.

But they only won 5-4, despite leading 4-0 at the interval. Almondburians pegged them back to 4-4 before the hosts bagged an 85th-minute winner.

Scorers for Heckmondwike were Jordan Garrick (2), Scott Malloy, Daniel Laidlaw and Dale Hanson.

Farsley Celtic Juniors put in another good shift to defeat under-performing visitors FC Headingley Reserves 5-0.

Juniors attacked from the kick off and 16-year-old Louis Surtees set the pace with a lob from 18 yards.

Josh Sanz then knocked in an opportunist goal in the 26th minute and Louis Edmonds scored either side of the interval, Tyler Cooper completing the comfortable victory.
