FARSLEY Celtic Juniors may have taken a little time to settle but they were always in command when hosting Salem in the first round of the West Riding County FA Challenge Cup.

Goals in the 5-1 victory against the Halifax & District League side came from Alex Jesusco (2), Luke Gordon, Alex Gyte and free-kick specialist Craig Ferrand as they booked a home tie against Sherburn White Rose next month.

Stanningley Old Boys will face West Yorkshire League Division One foes Old Centralians at home after winning 2-0 at Greetland Reserves.

The old boys' defence was in form as James Allen (penalty) and Brad Burrow ensured they progressed to the second round.

Farnley Sports will be at Greetland's first team after Glasshoughton Welfare Reserves forfeited their match.

Farsley Celtic Juniors Reserves bettered their first team by winning 7-0 at Halifax League outfit Shelf in the first round of the West Riding County FA Challenge Trophy, although they only scored one goal in the first half.

Josh Humpleby, with two left-footed drives, Louis Edmonds (2), Danny Dalton, Louis Surtees and an own goal were on target for Celtic, who must be confident ahead of their trip to Craven League outfit Sutton.

St Bede's maintained their improvement and took a 25th-minute lead via Jay Davis at home to Old Centralians Reserves but the visitors were level by the interval and scored twice more in the second half.

In domestic matches, Grangefield Old Boys dropped their first Yorkshire Amateur League points of the season but remain third after being held 1-1 by winless visitors Leeds Medics & Dentists in the Premier Division.

Grangefield took the lead when unmarked Nick Smith headed in from a corner but Medics then threw the kitchen sink at the hosts and equalised through Brad Chambers, although keeper Lukasz Wiacek had to be alert in the first half.

Calverley United and Leeds Medics & Dentists Reserves, the longest-serving sides in the Championship Division, played out a thrilling 4-4 draw.

However, five of the goals came in the last ten minutes after Medics were leading 2-1, Calverley recovering from 3-1 down and only equalising with the last kick of the match – a 25-yard piledriver from four-goal hero Nathan Clarke.

Jonny McGahan relished his new role as a striker and bagged two goals for Medics, with one equal in quality to Clarke's last-gasp screamer.

James Evans and Paddy Knight were also on the scoresheet for eighth-placed Medics, while unbeaten Calverley are seventh after three matches.

Middleton Park were leading 1-0 after 88 minutes at St Bede's in Division Two, Jamie Claughton having netted a first-half penalty. But two goals in as many minutes gave the home side an unexpected victory, Anthony Garner's corner causing chaos and Brad Holland then bagging the winner.

It always looked like one goal would be all that separated Norristhorpe and Heckmondwike Grammar School Old Boys in Division Three – and the home side would live to rue a close-range miss in the second minute as Dale Hanson broke the deadlock for visitors Heckmondwike in the 65th minute.

Sean Gill's first-half treble was just enough to give Farnley Sports a 3-2 home victory, and their first points, in Division Four against Kippax Athletic, who scored twice downhill in the second half.

St Bede's Thirds won their third game of the season in Division Five – by 2-1 at Old Centralians Thirds.

The hosts led via Arran Townend at the interval but substitute Lee Fairweather equalised early in the second half and Kris Balodis got the winner for third-placed Saints.
