BRIGHOUSE Town tasted that winning feeling again in midweek when they broke a sequence of draws to progress to the last eight of the West Riding County Cup.

Town boss Paul Quinn had spoken last week about the stalemates that his side have been involved in during a frustrating spell in the league.

The fact that Tuesday’s win was against an Evo-Stik Division One North rival but came in a cup competition will add to the frustrations.

However, Quinn and his squad remain positive, and the manager said: “Some of the drawn games have been positive results and I think you have to judge each game on its merits.

“At Hyde United a week last Tuesday, it was a goalless draw but we’d played three-quarters of the game with ten men after our captain James Pollard had been sent off.

“To be honest, that felt more like win. We had to make some tactical changes after going down to ten men so early but I was delighted with the reaction of the players and we could have nicked it late on.

“That has to go down as an excellent result away from home and, as I’ve said before, the important thing is that we’re not losing games.”

Town had another positive draw last Saturday as they went to a Trafford side second in the table and fresh from a 1-0 victory over Farsley Celtic at Throstle Nest.

Quinn’s men took the lead but were pegged back just before half-time in the 1-1 draw at Manchester.

The dropped points for the home side saw them tumble to fourth, while a good away point lifted Brighouse to eighth and kept them within three points of Trafford.

The Town boss is looking to build on those results and continue to strengthen his squad following two recent additions with Guiseley connections - one through the Vanarama National League side’s academy side and one on loan from it.

Quinn added: “We’re always looking to strengthen in key positions, although there’s nothing in the pipeline at the moment.

"We keep our eyes open for good players but they don’t often become available.

“We signed Jack Stockdill and Devonte Morton last month, and they are both very good players who have done well since coming in.

"Devonte worked hard up front on his own at Hyde - he ran himself into the ground and held the ball up well when we got it forward.

“Jack has played some good football since joining us and he’s shown all the qualities that he has in his game.

"We would like to add and, although there’s nothing imminent, we have our sights on a couple in the next three or four weeks.

“The squad is in good shape at the moment, with only the long-term injuries to Ernest Boafo - he’s waiting for an op on his ankle - and Sam Hewitt.

Apart from those two, everyone is okay, so we’re looking pretty strong going into the busy Christmas period.”
