FARSLEY Celtic head to relegation-threatened Harrogate Railway Athletic tomorrow knowing that their slim hopes of reaching the Evo-Stik Division One North play-offs were ended by Saturday’s 3-1 home defeat to Glossop North End.
It was the Celts’ fourth consecutive loss and came after they had taken a 1-0 lead.
Farsley broke the deadlock in the 34th minute through Paul Walker, who netted superbly after Aiden Savory had flicked the ball on from keeper Tom Taylor's free-kick.
Just as it seemed that Neil Parsley’s men would take their slender lead into the break, however, the visitors hit back.
With less than a minute of the first half remaining, Kieran Lugsden beat the home defence to a good cross from Ben Richardson and slotted past Taylor.
There were chances for both sides in an even game played in testing conditions in the second half, but it was Glossop who made the most of their openings.
They were back in front inside the last quarter of an hour when Jamie Rainford lifted the ball over Taylor, and the Celts’ keeper was beaten again late on when Richardson slipped the ball under him.
Brighouse Town are at home tomorrow after a 1-1 draw at basement outfit New Mills.
It was the Millers’ first point at home this term and only their second of the season.
Danny Facey gave Town a tenth-minute lead when he stabbed home a James Hurtley cross but they conceded a penalty midway through the first half, and the Millers’ Ryan Hopper netted from the spot.
Town host Ossett Albion tomorrow after the Unicorns were beaten 4-0 at home by promotion-chasing Spennymoor Town on Saturday.
