BRIGHOUSE Town start 2016 eighth in Division One North of the Evo-Stik League and ready to continue their promotion push into the new year.

Paul Quinn's men are just four points outside the play-off zone with games in hand on three of the clubs currently occupying the positions that will contest the end-of-season extras.

Having seen his side bounce back from their humbling 5-1 home defeat to struggling Witton Albion with a hard-earned 2-1 home victory over Scarborough Athletic on Monday, the Town boss is looking forward to the second half of the campaign.

"If anyone had offered me this position at this stage of the season, I would have snatched their hand off, so we have to be very pleased with the way it's gone so far," said Quinn.

"We have a strong squad of 20 to 22 players and injury-wise, we have just Steve Hollingworth and Dan Illingworth out. Apart from those two, we're doing all right because we have more depth in the squad this year.

"It is difficult balancing it out trying to get everyone game time and keeping them all as match fit as we can – but that's a nice problem to have. You need a lot of good players to achieve things and I think we have a squad capable of doing that."

Quinn admits that no-one around the Brighouse camp is getting ahead of themselves and they do not sit around discussing promotion.

He knows Brighouse are one of the new boys on the non-League ladder, and a small club in comparison to some of their rivals, but he is also aware that any club must strive to improve and push themselves.

He said: "We know it would be an outstanding achievement for a club of our size to get into the Evo-Stik Premier Division – but there are aspirations and we are so close that we must give it our best efforts.

"Regarding our position, we have come a long way and if we pick up points from our next few games, who knows? We're not halfway through the season yet, so there are a lot of points still to play for.

"We got four or five really good recruits over the summer and we have come a good chunk of the distance, so we have to go for it and see how far we can go.

"We'll try to put another run together and see where that takes us. We have had a couple of good runs so far this season, so we know we have it in us."
