BRIGHOUSE Town chairman Ray McLaughlin feels his club are finally settling into life in the Evo-Stik League after a difficult opening couple of months.

Town sat 14th in the 22-club First Division North as they went into today’s home game against near neighbours Ossett Town.

Ossett are one of the more established clubs in the division but are currently just below Brighouse in the table.

McLaughlin said: “Things have been easier these last few weeks. Two draws followed by three wins have put us on a bit of a high.

“I said in my programme notes last week that we are starting to look like our old selves. A bit of confidence is coming back and we are going at teams.

“Ernest Boafo is playing well at the moment and Tom Matthews has come back in so we look like scoring again.

“Playing Ossett is a big game for us and it’s nice to be going into matches like this with that bit of spirit back.”

Brighouse had a meteoric rise through the Northern Counties East divisions after joining the competition from the West Riding County Amateur League.

They have swept all before them in recent seasons but are up against bigger clubs now.

“The last couple of years we’ve not been used to losing but its different here.

“We’re the new boys but hopefully we can come up with the goods.

“I think the standard is similar to the Northern Counties but the biggest difference I’ve noticed is the physical side.

“The sides in this league are big, fit and very experienced in that the know how to play the game and get the free kicks.

“I think we were a bit naive when we came up and we got knocked out of our stride in games.

“But we’re learning and Paul (Quinn manager) has been working on certain aspects of our game and making us harder to beat.”
