MATTHEW Hannan was the hero for Eccleshill Sunday in the last of the Bradford Sunday Alliance League's GOALS-sponsored internal cup semi-finals.

Although he knew little about one of the goals, which cannoned into the net from a defender's clearance, Hannan was credited with all four as his side defeated Division 1A rivals Junction Wyke 4-2 in the Intermediate Cup at Rawdon Meadows.

Things were even in the first half, Junction going ahead with a Liam Stewart header after 20 minutes, only for Hannan to swiftly equalise with a long-range shot.

Arran Peel's well-taken goal, which would have done credit to a professional, edged the Wyke team 2-1 ahead – but Hannan again equalised before that richochet completed his hat-trick.

Eccleshill then took control, Hannan's fourth being a chip over the keeper as Junction strove for an equaliser.

The winners now meet Division 1B outfit Lyceum at Manningham Mills' AA Van Hire Stadium on Sunday, April 17 (2pm).

League action saw West Bowling move to within four points of leaders Thornton United in the Premier Division after a 7-0 win over depleted Buttershaw Celtic at Emsley's Rec.

The match was hastily rearranged, with Buttershaw giving up home advantage so they did not have to play in midweek, but they struggled to get a team together.

It only took Bowling ten minutes to open the scoring, Paul Helliwell and Michael O'Brien being involved in the build-up to skipper Cameron Nelson's emphatic finish – and it was 2-0 six minutes later when O'Brien met Tom Lambert's cross.

Rampant Bowling added a third goal when Joe Jagger's free-kick from outside the box went over the wall into the top corner – and it was 4-0 after 32 minutes when Helliwell calmly finished Chris Wood's ball into the box.

Andrew Kenyon's powerful header from Helliwell's cross swiftly kick-started the second-half scoring and Aidan Day made it 6-0 from a move involving O'Brien and Helliwell, Jordon Lee Hagyard completing the scoring with a left-footed blast.

League leaders and defending champions Thornton United's hopes of adding a second title took a jolt, however, as they were beaten 6-2 by White Eagles, who did their own ambitions no harm.

Meanwhile, in-form Peel Park climbed to seventh with a 4-2 victory over struggling George Hotel, although the victors did not open their account until after 30 minutes, John Selby firing high into the net.

George then took advantage of their superior height to head a goal from a corner and the match looked to be heading for a stalemate until the introduction of 51-year-old Allan Morley senior.

Within five minutes of coming on, he outfoxed his marker to score a superb diving header at the back post, before turning provider by heading son Allan Morley junior's long ball across goal for Alex Cusack to score with an audacious bicycle kick.

Morley then wrapped things up with a goal of outstanding quality, chipping the keeper from distance.

Long-time Division 1B leaders Beldon Oddies' ambitions took a battering when they dropped points to title rivals Lyceum.

The third-placed team won a physical match at Arkwright Street on Thursday evening, winning 3-2, and in the return fixture at Apperley Bridge on Sunday they shared two points and two goals.

Grass Greener United are now second after a 6-3 victory over Westwood Park with Alan Cuff hitting a hat-trick and James Smail converting a penalty, further goals coming from Chris Sedgewick and Patsy Hollinger.

After going behind twice, AFC Titans battled back to take all three points against a very good Pudsey Athletic side in Division 2A, goals coming from skipper Anthony Preston and top scorer Mick Dougan, whose brace took his seasonal tally to 50 in league and cup.
