AFTER a complete washout of Bradford & District FA Sunday Cup ties last month, the only weekend casualty in the Senior Cup was the White Eagles v Buttershaw Celtic fourth-round tie.

The third-round games went ahead as planned and Grass Greener United, who love playing Premier Division clubs in knockout competitions, came from two goals down to win a seven-goal thriller against Peel Park.

The top-flight side showed their class with two goals in the first five minutes, a header from Mark Dempsey and a free-kick by Alan Morley junior.

Grass Greener pulled one back after 17 minutes with a Sean McVey shot from just inside the penalty area – and Andy Howland equalised with a sharp header in the 50th minute, before McVey struck again in the 65th with a long-range free-kick.

Howland was on target again three minutes later and although Morley added his second ten minutes from time, it was United who added another Premier scalp to their collection.

West Bowling booked a quarter-final spot with a 4-0 win over Oakenshaw, with Chris Wood the man of the match after an outstanding hat-trick.

Bowling adapted well to the blustery wind and struck after just five minutes when good build-up play from Jordon Lee Hagyard and Joe Jagger found Wood outside the box. His shot sailed into the top corner to give the holders the lead.

Bowling kept pressing forward, albeit against the strong wind, but had to wait until the 37th minute before scoring again.

Aidan Day chased a lost cause as the ball was trickling out for a goal-kick and passed to Jagger, who hit a perfectly-weighted pass to Day to score from close range.

In the second half, and with the wind now in their favour, Bowling put Oakenshaw on the back foot and with Andrew Gallagher pulling the strings it was not long before they scored again.

Wood stepped up to take a free-kick and floated it over the wall and into the top corner to make it 3-0. He then completed his hat-trick with another free-kick which bamboozled the home defence and found its way into the net.

It was another quality performance from the cup holders, who now play giant-killers Grass Greener United in the last eight.

The other third-round tie saw a convincing 5-0 victory for Prospect over Salthorn.

There was also some league action and Thornton United thumped Bolton Woods 12-0 to reinforce their position at the top of the Premier Division.

Sandy Lane followed up their victory in the League Cup by beating Bradford Moor 5-0.

Swaine Green visited long-time Division One leaders Undercliffe CC and came out on top 2-1.

The visitors got off to a good start with a goal from new signing Christian Soda. Fellow new boy Omar Awan added a second before Undercliffe pulled one back.

In Division 2A, Turf and Eccleshill Punjab fought out a five-goal thriller. Punjab took a two-goal lead into the interval but the hosts fought back to level.

Turf's goals came from Michael Gumenuik, who scored the first of his long career in Sunday football, and a Joe Wright header but the visitors struck the winner late on.
