THERE was a full programme of league matches at the weekend in the Bradford Sunday Alliance league.

There was also a delayed Goals-sponsored Senior Cup match and the all-Alliance clash saw White Eagles losing 4-1 to Sandy Lane to put the Keighley-based side through to the next round.

In the Premier division, champions and table-toppers Thornton United beat basement dwellers Ventus United 5-0 in a convincing victory.

Second-placed Buttershaw Celtic were a goal down to George Hotel but came back to win 2-1 with second-half strikes from Lee Smith and Jamie Baron.

West Bowling beat Thornbury Celtic 7-0 in the first time the two sides had met in a league match thanks to goals from Chris Wood (two), Chris Cairns, Paul Helliwell, Aidan Day and Damian Melvin (two).

In the first division, Aire Athletic returned from their West Riding County cup exploits and on a very poor surface and in a scrappy game visited Swaine Green, where they slumped to a 3-1 defeat.

The only goal in the first half came when an Elliott Holmes cross was diverted into goal by a defending player before man-of-the-match Aran Basi won and converted a penalty to make it 2-0.

The visitors pulled a goal back almost immediately when their frontman headed home a free-kick before Andy Philp chipped home a third.

In division 1B, Toller moved into second position in the table against a good Lyceum side with a 5-1 victory despite the absence of their manager, who was away on matrimonial duties.

Kamran Khan and Zain Ahmed both grabbed a brace but a terrific display was crowned with a goal from Adeeb Beast.

Toller full back Tariq Aziz was also missing due to his marriage and all the lads gave him a good wedding present with the three points.

Grass Greener and Great Northern shared six goals and the points in a thriller at Windhill with Paul Hickey firing the visitors in front in the first half.

The home team equalised when substitute Rob Coulter hit home early in the second half.

Gareth Crosland then put the visitors back in front before Coulter got his second to restore parity and then went on to complete his hat-trick in the 88th minute with what looked to be the winner.

But the visitors struck back in the last minute with a Luke Firth header to share the spoils in an entertaining game that produced a fair result.
