AGE is showing no signs of holding back Allan Morley senior.

The 50-year-old lobbed the keeper with his first touch to put Peel Park ahead at Bradford Moor in the Bradford Sunday Alliance League Premier Division, and almost bagged his second minutes later, only a brilliant save denying him.

However, bad defending meant that the visitors were 3-1 behind early in the second half and they had to mount a late rally to pull off a 4-4 draw.

Matthew Dempsey made it 3-2 with a superbly-taken free-kick from outside the area but they went 4-2 in arrears before the introduction of substitute Allan Morley junior late in the piece proved the inspiration for Adam Turner's brace that forced a share of the spoils.

West Bowling, runners-up to Thornton United last season, had to field players out of position and looked disjointed in a 4-2 home defeat against Buttershaw Celtic.

Bowling old boy Jamie Brennan put Celtic ahead by seizing on a blocked shot and it became 2-0 when Liam Keeley scored.

The penny dropped for Bowling at half-time and, having had no wide men in a congested midfield, they moved players into more familiar positions, Joe Jagger exchanging passes with Andy Gallagher before heading their first goal, Chris Wood making it 2-2 with a header that went in off a defender.

However, in a classic tale of another old boy coming good, Lee Smith, who had only signed for Celtic in midweek from Bowling, bagged a late brace to give the visitors victory.

Thornton started with the same 4-2 scoreline, defeating visitors George Hotel, for whom Ryan Templeton and Warren Ingleson were on target, while top-flight new boys White Eagles thrashed Ventus United 7-1.

A close-range goal from a corner and a penalty had Eagles taking flight, and it was 4-0 by half-time, Marcus Edwards finishing off a sweeping move early in the second half for their fifth.

United then got the goal that their improved second-half display deserved but they still lost by six goals, Edwards (4), Alex Nesovic (2) and debutant Ben O'Melia being the marksmen.

In the First Division, hosts Swaine Green hit the woodwork five times and found the visitors' keeper in fine form in a 3-3 draw with Allerton.

Trailing 1-0 at half-time, Swaine Green were inspired by new signing Talent Ndlovu and Marcus Harper on the left, plus Elliot Holmes and Anil Singh.

Simon McQuiston (2), including a cheeky back-heel, and Ndlovu, who put them 3-2 ahead with ten minutes left, netted for Swaine Green, who were foiled by a last-minute penalty.
