PEEL Park have had a fantastic first season in the Bradford Sunday Alliance League PREMIER DIVISION.

However, with their original choice injured, their lack of a regular keeper has finally caught up with them.

They visited fellow promoted club George Hotel and were beaten 4-3, thereby ending their title challenge.

The only other top-flight match was at Emsley's Rec, where West Bowling consolidated third place, and moved to within two points of the front-runners, with a 4-2 victory over Stanningley Albion.

High-tempo hosts Bowling got off to a flier when a second-minute cross by Jordon Lee Hagyard was headed towards goal by skipper Cameron Nelson, leading scorer Damian Melvin making sure from close range.

However, they were stunned eight minutes later when Stanningley equalised, Ian Carradice making a point-blank save only for the ball to fall kindly for Chad Morris.

But Bowling continued to create openings, a great through ball allowing Melvin to nonchalantly chip the bemused keeper, and soon after he completed his hat-trick with a fine shot into the bottom corner, and also had a penalty saved.

With Aidan Day and Paul Helliwell controlling midfield, the fourth goal arrived in the second half when Melvin shrugged off two defenders and found Hagyard, who gave Karl Fawcett the chance to score from inside the box.

It was a surprise therefore when Morris intercepted a back-pass to bag his second.

Thornton United moved to the top of the table with a 6-1 midweek victory over Bolton Woods, while White Eagles maintained the pressure on Oakenshaw in the FIRST DIVISION with a 6-0 victory over visitors Cuedos Rangers.

Quick-fire goals within a minute – from Danny Brown and Danny Facey – all but killed off Rangers in the first half, and Eagles swiftly added two from Jamil Campbell and Facey.

The second half was again dominated by the hosts, who managed further goals through Mark Betts, who was playing his first game after eight weeks out injured, and Chris Humphries.

In Sunday's First Division action, Oakenshaw carried on winning, defeating Allerton 4-1, but the big match in the section was between second and third-placed White Eagles and Swaine Green.

Eagles soared again, with five first-half goals in a 7-0 triumph knocking the stuffing out of opponents who were playing their last league game of the season.

Swaine Green rarely threatening the home goal, two goals each for Mark Betts and Craig Smith, plus efforts from Miles Smith, Aaron Metcalfe and Danny Brown showing the gulf in class.

There was a winner-takes-all clash in DIVISION 1B at Upper Seymour Street between Olympic and Prospect.

Hosts Olympic took the lead ten minutes into the second half and dealt with everything that Prospect's forwards threw at them until two minutes from the end, when referee Ian Gatenby awarded the visitors a penalty kick.

In the aftermath, Gatenby dismissed the home goalkeeper, and Ben Hardy beat the substitute goalkeeper to restore parity.

With 30 seconds remaining, Prospect then mounted one last attack and got the winner through Ian Horrocks to trigger a pitch invasion by their jubilant substitutes and spectators.

In DIVISION 2A, Mill Lane had a 6-0 victory over mid-table George Hotel Reserves to remain top, with Paul Hague and Liam Charles both hitting hat-tricks.
