Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division: Staveley MW 8 Albion Sports 0

ALBION Sports’ bid to go joint fourth went spectacularly wrong as they were humbled 8-0 at Staveley Miners' Welfare.

The Chesterfield outfit won both halves 4-0 as the Albion Lions were blown away, despite not playing that badly.

When the clubs met at Throstle Nest a few days ago, it was an eight-goal game, but the side’s shared the spoils in a high-scoring draw.

Last night Albion could do nothing right, while virtually everything their hosts touched turned to gold - apart from the penalty kick they had at 7-0 that Albion keeper Kyle Trenerry saved.

Albion were also thwarted by the home keeper from a penalty of their own, the Trojans’ shot-stopper Lewis Naylor saving a spot kick in the first half.

The game was probably over as a contest even then, however, as the home side had raced into a three-goal lead by the 18th minute.

Steve Carty opened the scoring in the ninth minute, and Callum Mawbey, who went on to claim a hat-trick, added a second a minute later.

Adam Lee netted the Trojans’ third and, after bagging a brace in the 4-4 draw, he was also on target twice last night.

Shaun Nesbitt netted before Mawbey nabbed the last of his treble, and Liam Nelthorpe wrapped up the scoring in the last minute on a dark night for the Lions.
