Toolstation Northern Counties East League Premier Division: Albion Sports 3 Retford United 1

ALBION Sports came from a goal down early on to ease to a 3-1 home win that took them back up to fifth place.

The visitors broke the deadlock in the tenth minute after Albion keeper Jack Bentley had done well to parry a shot from the edge of the area.

Retford’s skipper Adam Lee was then first to react and pounced to slot the rebound past Bentley.

The lead lasted just three minutes, however, as Albion’s leading scorer Marcus Edwards used his considerable pace to round a couple of defenders to get into the area before firing in the equaliser.

Edwards, who had claimed third place in the league’s leading scorers list with his 13th-minute strike, then turned provider.

He laid the ball off into Aran Basi’s path and the midfielder curled a shot into the top corner.

The home side dominated the second half but they had to wait until the 83rd minute to put the gloss on the win, Omar Habib netting a firm shot into the bottom corner from outside the area after a powerful run.

Albion spokesman Pete Cusack said: “It was one-way traffic in the second half and a very good win but the only downside was an injury to Marcus.

“He was substituted after taking a knock to his ankle but he’s got almost a week to recover.

"We have no game this weekend so it’s Teversal away in the League Cup next Tuesday, and Marcus, fingers crossed, should be okay by then.”
