Leeds United 0, Huddersfield Town 1

THREE points – nothing more, nothing less.

That is Leeds head coach Garry Monk's desperate desire when his side take on fellow Championship strugglers Blackburn at Elland Road on Tuesday night.

After Saturday's 1-0 home defeat to Yorkshire neighbours Huddersfield, early-season pressure is already mounting on Monk and his newly-assembled side.

He has only won one of his six Championship games and has yet to taste success on home soil.

Like many of his predecessors in the Massimo Cellino era, Monk is finding Elland Road a difficult puzzle to solve.

Leeds managed only seven league wins there last season and, in the immediate aftermath of a drab display against surprise leaders Huddersfield, the Whites' poor home form is not lost on Monk.

He said: "We have to get a real reaction now on Tuesday. We need to take the three points, it's as simple as that.

"It is very important that we get this Elland Road monkey off our backs and get the three points."

A touch of class earned the unbeaten Terriers victory, with Manchester City loanee Aaron Mooy – the best player on the park – smashing a 25-yard shot past Rob Green on 55 minutes.

Yet Monk believes the Australian midfield match-winner should have been sent off in the first half following a two-footed lunging tackle on new Leeds skipper Liam Bridcutt.

"Two footed, off the ground, totally out of control – it was an horrendous tackle," said the Leeds chief.

Town head coach David Wagner admitted the challenge, for which Mooy was booked, would have been red in his native Germany but not in England.

Mooy's goal kept Town four points clear at the top while Leeds, who rarely threatened, slid into the bottom three.
