SIMON Walton knows Guiseley must bounce back from their 4-0 home defeat at the hands of Dover if they are to win their fight for National League survival.

The Lions head to second-bottom Southport for another important match this weekend and Walton is determined there will be no repeat performance.

"That is not what we have been about recently," said the former Leeds United midfielder.

"It is easy to see the performance and the result is a million miles away from what we have been producing consistently in recent weeks.

"We've got to learn and move on from it – but we cannot accept it. We spoke about it and know we cannot afford any more of them if we are to achieve our goals."

Guiseley dropped a place to 17th after defeat to eighth-placed Dover but are still five points above the relegation zone with six games to play. The goals they conceded also dented their goal difference, a point not lost on Walton.

"It is not easy but if you lose 1-0 undeservedly, it is easier to accept than getting battered 4-0," he said.

"They were all sloppy goals and at the end frustration crept in and we gave a couple of goals away which could cost us goal difference-wise.

"We got what we deserved but it has not happened too often recently. We have got to make sure it is one off, a blip, and we have to get back to our standards we have shown more often than not recently.

"We're not stupid enough to think the job is done. We know how big the next six games are. We have to get back to the standards we have shown."

Manager Adam Lockwood has been analysing what went wrong and is determined to move forward as his team enter the final run-in to an eventful campaign

He said: "I am not too bothered about anybody else. The boys have been fantastic and I am sure they will be for the coming weeks.

"My job and Dave Penney's work is to keep them as right and prepared as possible."
