GUISELEY head to Gateshead in the Vanarama National League tomorrow after both clubs suffered the frustration of postponements yesterday.

There were only three games in the division that fell foul of the dreadful conditions on Boxing Day, and all were in the north.

Guiseley were due to host Grimsby Town in an all-ticket game but were forced to call it off after parts of Nethermoor were left flooded following constant rain on Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

The dressing rooms were ankle deep, and the corner of the pitch in front of the tunnel was also under water.

The club have announced that admission details for the rearranged game will be disclosed once a date has been agreed, which may be after the return fixture, which is scheduled for Saturday, January 2.

Saturday proved to be a disappointment for the Lions’ squad as they looked to get the previous Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at Aldershot Town out of their systems but the Gateshead players would also have been primed for their run out only to be thwarted.

Neil Aspin, the former Leeds United midfielder and FC Halifax Town manager, would have been looking for a reaction from his new side after their 5-1 home defeat to Woking.

Mark Bower’s Lions will now be aware that they will have to deal with the backlash from that heavy loss when they travel, weather permitting, to Heed’s International Stadium.

The far north of England has been particularly battered by the recent storms, and it was no surprise that Gateshead’s trip to Barrow was shelved. The Army were called in to help flood victims and rescue stranded residents in Cumbria for a third time on Saturday.

The Boxing Day postponements cost both tomorrow’s hosts and Bower’s Lions a place in the table as the majority of their league rivals played.

Guiseley slipped one place to 18th but are still six points clear of the relegation places, Gateshead also dropping one place because Tranmere Rovers leapfrogged them after winning 2-1 at Macclesfield Town .

Aspin’s men are seven points better off and six places higher than Guiseley and have a game in hand.

However, Heed have lost almost as many as they have won this term and have conceded the same amount of goals as the Lions, and their last win was on December 5 by 1-0 at Kidderminster Harriers.

Guiseley’s last victory was last month, 2-0 at home to Bromley, but they did draw 1-1 at Halifax Town immediately after that.

Anthony Dudley scored in both of those games but has since departed after being recalled by his parent club, Bury.
