GUISELEY suffered one of their worst results of the season at Wrexham this week – but it wasn't a defeat.

Mark Bower's side saw a memorable victory snatched away deep in stoppage-time. And although the 3-3 draw ended a three-match losing streak, that was scant consolation for the Lions boss.

Bower's mood was not helped by a red card for Gavin Rothery, who had opened the scoring on an eventful night. Once again, Guiseley felt they were on the wrong end of a big call.

"It's very frustrating and disappointing that we're not getting enough of the big decisions and I feel sorry for the lads, especially after Wednesday's game," said Bower.

"If you had asked any of the players before the game if they would have taken a point from an away game at a club like Wrexham, I think they would have snatched your hand off. But they were all down after the game and it was a very low dressing room.

"I'm disappointed for the team and for Gav because he's had a stop-start season through injuries. But he got back in the side and he had played really well on Wednesday and scored a good goal."

The manager and the club's backroom staff are looking into the decision and may take things further.

"It was a harsh red card – Gav was first to the ball and played it cleanly," said Bower firmly.

"The referee's interpretation was that it was a reckless challenge but we've looked back at the television replays and we can't see anything wrong at all.

"We can certainly appeal the decision but firstly we'll look at other cases and see if there is any precedent because it may not be worth it.

"It isn't just about what it cost us at Wrexham, it's really about whether that tackle – which I thought was perfectly fair – really warrants a three-game ban.

"We've got one of the smallest squads in the division and we have to cope with injuries, so to have a player like Gav sidelined for three games would hit us hard."
