BRIGHOUSE Town played their second game in two days when they travelled to Basford United on Saturday just hours after hosting Shaw Lane on Friday evening.

The game against the Ducks was in memory of Dan Wilkinson, the Shaw Lane player who collapsed and died on the pitch at Brighouse when Shaw Lane visited for an Evo-Stik League Cup tie last September.

There was a rousing minute’s applause before the game and a four-figure sum raised for the Daniel Wilkinson Foundation, thereby raising awareness of the undetected heart condition that affected the young man so suddenly. The money will be distributed between charities that the foundation supports.

The Barnsley-based visitors won the game 2-0 after former Bradford Park Avenue striker Chib Chilaka opened the scoring on the hour and Nicky Walker added a late second.

Town beat Basford 1-0 a day later thanks to a solitary strike from Adam Shaw. The home side were awarded a penalty soon after but Ben Hutchinson’s spot-kick was saved.

Farsley Celtic rescued a draw from a 1-1 stalemate at Mossley after going a goal down to their hosts from a step below on the pyramid system.

It was the Celt’s last friendly fixture at a club they met three times last season, twice in the Evo-Stik Division One North and once in the FA Trophy.

However, it was the Lillywhites that broke the deadlock when Elliot Harrison slipped the ball under Graeme McKibbon midway through the second half.

Despite it being a poor performance from Adam Lakeland’s men, they snatched a late equaliser when substitute Luke Baldwin netted an 87th minute free kick.

Silsden also played their final warm-up game and they were beaten at home by Manchester Premier League outfit Royton Town.

The Oldham based visitors grabbed an 11th minute opener through Matthew Pownall, and the Cobbydalers couldn’t respond.
