FARSLEY Celtic head north for their final friendly of pre-season today but the planning for next week’s opening league game is well underway.

Farsley are holding a 'Celebrate Celtic Day' when they host Kendal Town in Evo-Stik Division One North.

There is free admission to the encounter as Farsley play under the name Celtic again for the first time in five years.

They had to reform after administration as Farsley AFC but were allowed to appeal and, following much jumping through hoops, culminating in a meeting at Wembley, they were successful in reclaiming their original name.

The free-for-all game against old adversaries is a gesture from the club as they begin a new campaign.

However, it will be a hair-raising experience for chief executive officer Josh Greaves and head of media Robert Winterbottom.

Greaves said: "In the club before the game, Rob and I have agreed to ‘Brave the Shave’ for Macmillan Cancer Research.

“It’s our first league game of the season – it’s at home and there is free entry. We are expecting a lot of people through the doors and Rob and I wanted to maximise our fund-raising efforts.

“Its great that the club have their name back and we thought we couldn’t let it pass without doing something to celebrate.

"We have always done whatever we can to support charities and the local community and we’ve held loads of events here.

“We were awarded the Evo-Stik League Community Club of the year last June for continued support to community projects.

“I think we – Rob and I – had to do something. We couldn’t let this pass so we decided to have our heads shaved for Macmillan.

"I think lots of people want to help and raise money but not enough of them follow it through and actually do something, so if we inspire people to do their own thing or just contribute then it will be worth it.”
