Padiham 3, Farsley 1

FARSLEY suffered a shock defeat at Evo-Stik League Division One North basement outfit Padiham – and Matt Dempsey had a mixed afternoon as he scored for both teams.

Neil Parsley's men were looking to boost their promotion hopes by bouncing back from the previous weekend's defeat at Scarborough Athletic but there was still no joy on the road.

Farsley had secured the signing of Luke Porrit from neighbours Guiseley on Friday and he was in the starting line-up as Parsley looked to shake things up.

Porrit had an early run but his cross was well defended.

The visitors almost took the lead following an early corner but Aiden Savory's effort crashed against the bar.

The deadlock was broken by Padiham's former Premier League striker Brett Ormerod, the former Blackpool and Southampton striker opening up space for a shot.

That was the only goal of the first half but Farsley keeper Tom Taylor had to come to the rescue of his side after the break by saving a penalty after Ryan Serrant had brought down an attacker in the area.

The respite was brief and Ben Allen doubled the home side's lead before Dempsey inadvertently added their third goal.

He redeemed himself in the 71st minute by scoring at the right end but it was merely a consolation as Farsley dropped to seventh place, ten points off the pace.
