There was joy for Baildon and Morley but heartache for Yeadon in Division Two on the final day of the JCT600 Bradford League season.

Yeadon went into their match at Morley knowing 16 points would enable them to take the title.

But a six-wicket defeat saw Baildon, who were without a game on the final weekend, crowned champions instead and Morley pip Yeadon for the second promotion spot.

Skipper Matthew Baxter steered Morley into the top-flight for only the second time with an unbeaten 59 as he shared an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 80 with Richard Jubb that enabled them to overhaul Yeadon’s modest 127 with 14 balls to spare.

When Damon Gormley (3-17) reduced Morley to 36-4, there was a flicker of hope for Yeadon, but once Baxter took charge it was extinguished.

Morley set up their success with a disciplined bowling display. Spinners Kashif Naveed (3-31) and Dave Nebard (3-40) ensured that Yeadon’s scoring was kept in check.

Opener Callum Goldthorp (37) top-scored but it was an indication of how tough batting was that it took him 112 balls.

Fourth-placed Gomersal pulled off a two-run win over Great Horton thanks to the efforts of James Russell (6-62) and Chris Rhodes (3-43).

They bowled out the visitors for 162 after Sadaqat Zaman (65) had threatened to win the game.

Gomersal’s total of 164 owed much to an unbeaten 60 from wicketkeeper Jack Seddon as Muhammed Akbar (4-44) and Altaf Mohammad (3-20) posed problems.

Keighley finished fifth after defeating Windhill by nine runs as Joe Stead (4-45) and Imran Patel (3-14) dismissed them for 143.

An unbeaten 40 by number nine batsman Jason Roberts had enabled Keighley to reach 152 all out against Daniel Bell (4-30) and Ryan Holdsworth (3-41).

Spen Victoria rounded off their campaign with a 125-run win over Bowling Old Lane.

Opener Peter Jackson (43) and Joel Pollard (43) top-scored in a Spen total of 199-9, with Awais Ijaz (4-43) and Shoaib Iqbal (3-81) the pick of the bowlers.

Spinner Craig Woodhead then took 3-13 as Old Lane perished for just 74.

There was no final-day joy for bottom team Brighouse , Andrew Marshall (3-11) and Nico Harabalidis (3-12) bowling them out for 117 before Bankfoot eased to a seven-wicket win.

Second-bottom Idle also lost, with Michael Kelsey’s 52 the highlight of their 125 all out as Simon North took 4-40 for Hartshead Moor.

A five-wicket win ensued as Nathan Madden made 67, Kelsey following up his half-century with 4-37 for Idle.
