Burley and Ben Rhydding go head to head on Saturday in a match that could end one’s dreams of the Aire-Wharfe League title or the other’s hopes of staying in Division One.

Burley have picked up 25 of the last 30 points on offer and have moved into third place, seven behind leaders Beckwithshaw.

With Charlie Swallow and Jason Wright in top bowling form, Ben Rhydding have won three of their last five games and, while still in 11th spot, they are now only four points adrift of Kirkstall.

And, as if that match wasn’t big enough, Ben Rhydding also have the little matter of their re-arranged first Waddilove Cup final against Toby Jacklin’s Collingham at Ilkley on Sunday.

For most of the season it has looked as though the only question in Division Three was who would go up with Colton? But that may be changing.

While Menston and Tong Park Esholt – both relegated last season – have been slugging it out for that second place, Colton have suddenly looked vulnerable, dropping ten points in their last three outings.

That is precisely the distance between them and third-placed Tong Park Esholt. And Colton still have to play both their rivals in the run-in.

Saturday will be nerve jangling for the chasing pair. Colton have what looks like a nailed-on win against bottom side Alwoodley but Menston and Tong Park Esholt face tougher challenges.

With Gareth Lee hitting 75 not out, 50 not out and 94, Menston have won their last three games but they will be well aware that New Rover are always capable of high scores, as they showed hitting 292-2 against Silsden last week.

Tong Park Esholt entertain Woodhouse, a side with a mixed record but having already beaten the promotion hopefuls this season.

There’s an intriguing match at Addingham, who entertain Silsden, bringing together two of the league’s star batsmen this season in Ricky Palacio and Majid Inayat - both fresh from centuries last week.

Skipton need to take something from their match with Illingworth to keep ahead of the re-election spots, while, even though it’s been a disappointing season for both Horsforth and Hall Park, there is bound to be extra spice to their derby clash.

With James Seymour hitting two centuries in the last three weeks, Harden have regained first place in Division Two but face a difficult trip to Green Lane, who still have their own promotion hopes and who took five points when the sides met earlier in the season.

Second-placed Rawdon should be too strong for North Leeds if they can restrict the batting of Barry Singleton and Tom Boxell, while all the promotion hopefuls will be willing Olicanian to pick up a few points off Pool, still smarting at last week’s defeat by Bolton Villas.

Ilkley should be able see off struggling Upper Wharfedale, which could allow Calverley to inch a bit further away from the relegation spots if they can take any points at Villas.

Elsewhere in Division One, Thackley, easily beaten by Burley last week, face Steeton, whose title hopes have faded with only one point from their last four matches.

Even though beaten by Beckwithshaw last week, Otley showed good form, hitting a season best 224-9, and they travel to Guiseley, who are unbeaten in three and won when the sides met earlier in the season.
