Mirfield Parish Cavaliers have emerged as the district’s leading Central Yorkshire League club after a resounding eight-wicket win at Wakefield Thornes.

Tharaka Gunarathne (85no) and Michael Rounding (82) were the key players as their side climbed to sixth in the Premier Division ahead of a forthcoming clash with winless Batley.

Birstall slipped to a fourth defeat of the season after managing only 123-9 in their one-wicket loss at Carlton.

Skipper Connor Williams followed three successive centuries with a rare duck, one of four in the Birstall innings, and a weekend visit from Methley is likely to offer little respite.

Perennial challengers Moorlands moved up to third in Division One with a comfortable win at Wakefield St Michaels, with Hopton Mills and Ossett joint-leaders after victories over Methley A and Scholes respectively.

A 161 second-wicket stand between Sam Gardiner (80) and Chris Scott (72) effectively secured a 138-run success for Moorlands.

Liversedge returned to winning ways with a four-wicket success that dented opponents Buttershaw’s promotion challenge thanks to an unbeaten 50 from Graeme Winn.

Skipper Paul Carroll hit a match-best 70 for Buttershaw and there was an unbeaten 50 from James Sawyer.

But a final total of 187-8 was not enough as Winn, Craig Wood (41) and Ross Kieswetter (40) eased Liversedge home by four wickets with five balls to spare, despite some fine bowling from Brad Greenwood (4-51).

Buttershaw are at Methley A in their next game, while Liversedge host East Ardsley and Moorlands take on Hopton Mills in the division’s top fixture.
