David Stiff played a spectacular match-winning innings as Hanging Heaton inflicted a second successive defeat on Manningham Mills in JCT600 Bradford League Division One.

The former Yorkshire, Kent and Somerset pace bowler struck eight sixes and 12 fours in an unbeaten 124 to help his side race past Mills total of 279-9 with 32 balls to spare.

Mills appeared to have set a challenging target thanks to a fourth-wicket stand of 136 between Gulsheraz Ahmed (77) and Ali Noman (67) until Stiff and Joe Fraser got to work.

They shared an unbroken fifth-wicket stand of 192, with Fraser making 60 not out to provide the perfect foil for the big-hitting Stiff.

It was a good day all round for Stiff, who also took 4-64, while captain John Carruthers captured 4-77.

All rounder Nick Walker, who joined East Bierley from Welwyn Garden City, was the day’s other century maker, helping Bierley to move into second place after taking a maximum 20 points from a 114-run win over Farsley, who are now bottom of the table.

Bierley were in trouble at 66-5 before Walker took charge, smashing three sixes and 16 fours in an unbeaten 113 as the home side reached 244-9 before bowling out Farsley for 130. Only Mark Harrison showed much resistance with 52 not out.

Bierley are 22 points behind reigning champions Woodlands, who won their fifth match in a row by 86 runs at Lightcliffe.

Woodlands were struggling at 60-5, with Yorkshire pace bowler Moin Ashraf taking 3-27, but they were rescued by former captain Tim Orrell (52), supported by Chris Brice (37).

Lightcliffe made a dreadful start, losing their first six wickets for 38, with key batsmen Chris Taylor and Yorkshire’s Alex Lees both being dismissed without scoring.

Opening bowlers Sarfraz Ahmed (3-17) and skipper Pieter Swanepoel (3-24) did the early damage before slow left-arm bowler Brice took 3-16 as Lightcliffe were dismissed for 97.

Cleckheaton gained their first win of the season by 59 runs at Saltaire.

Yorkshire bowler Iain Wardlaw (5-50) and Ian Wood (5-43) each took five wickets as the home side collapsed to 135 all out in reply to the visitors’ total of 194-7.

Pudsey Congs moved off the foot of the table with a six-wicket home win against Undercliffe.

Left-arm spinner Glenn Roberts, making his first league appearance of the season, took 4-42 as Undercliffe were bowled out for 165, with Yorkshire batsman Callum Geldart top scorer with 78. Nick Lindley (59) and Gareth Phillips (37) gave Congs a great start with an opening stand of 88 before skipper Andrew Bairstow led them to victory with 44 not out.

Second Division leaders Yeadon won their fifth match in a row, beating Baildon by seven wickets to go 11 points clear of Morley at the top.

Off-spinner Damon Gorm-ley took 4-13 and opening bowler Mahmood Rasool (4-46) impressed as Baildon were bowled out for 141.

Then Yeadon cruised to victory with 28 overs to spare as Gormley (48), Ben Elvidge (33no) and Oliver Halliday (30no) saw them home.
