If this Mitchell Starc fella thinks he’s coming in and pinching the new ball off me, he’s got another think coming!

I’ll be telling him that he will have to settle for being third or fourth change if he’s able to play against Gloucestershire tomorrow.

I don’t often get the chance to take the new ball for Yorkshire, but I managed it at Scarborough last week after taking a few wickets in the first innings of our win over Leicestershire.

It’s funny how things turn round in sport.

I didn’t get too much of a chance to bowl in the first game against Kent but I got a few wickets in the university game against Leeds-Bradford, and there I was opening the bowling last week.

I can’t say too much on Ajmal Shahzad’s situation, but it’s always a shame to see a team-mate leave the club.

Everyone’s got to move on, and hopefully it works out the best for both parties.

That brought up another quirk of sport because if that hadn’t have happened, I wouldn’t have played in the first team and I wouldn’t be here talking about wickets and runs.

I had played in a second-team one-day match at Headingley last Tuesday and was due to head over to Lytham to play a three-day match against Lancashire, but it was a quick dash to Scarborough instead.

To get our first win, which I think was fully deserved, means a lot to us.

Hopefully it can be a springboard going to Bristol and further on.
