Champions of the Aire Wharfe Senior Cricket League, Thackley CC, have a big day planned for the first round of the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Cricket Trophy on Sunday (1pm).

Thackley are entering the tournament for the first time following their historic championship winning season in 2011 that saw the club crowned Aire-Wharfe Champions for the first time.

To celebrate the club’s participation in the tournament a big day is planned to welcome the visit of Woodhouse Grange CC, champions of the York Senior Cricket League and four-time finalists in the prestigious National Village Cup competition, held at Lords.

On the day there will be a bar and food served as the club look to roll out the red carpet to their visitors and make a real effort to mark this historic day for the club.

Bren Terry, chairman of Thackley, said: “I am delighted that we are in the Black Sheep Yorkshire Champions Cricket Trophy this year, it is the culmination of a lot of hard work and it will be a huge day for the club representing the Airedale and Wharfedale Senior Cricket League in such a prestigious tournament.

"It is a historic occasion for Thackley Cricket Club and I really hope that as many people as possible from the local community are able to call in and lend their support to us. Woodhouse Grange’s reputation goes before them and I am certain they will provide a tough challenge but we are looking forward to it and I hope that there will be more events like this if we can progress to the next round.”
