Anxious players and groundstaff continue to watch the weather hoping, if not for sun then at least dry enough weather to allow the season to start properly.

Only four of the 36 Aire-Wharfe League sides – Otley, Calverley, Harden and Rawdon - have completed their opening two matches, while Olicanian and Skipton have yet to see a ball bowled in anger.

Division Two has seen most of the action and Rawdon will hope to build on their encouraging start when they entertain Upper Wharfedale on Saturday.

Having endured a miserable time last year, relegated with only four wins and 30 points, Rawdon committed themselves to change.

They are lowering the average age of the side and have already seen youngsters like Josh Hobson among the wickets, and there have been impressive displays from new signings like Ryan Gladwin and Tony Gilks.

Harden too have made some good signings, with Ben Birkill and James Seymour prominent as they have picked up eight points from Rawdon and Wharfedale.

They entertain newly-promoted Bardsey, who looked like a team in early form when beating Bolton Villas.

Finishing both opening matches has been a mixed blessing for Calverley – glad to have the cricket but two defeats have left them as the only side in the league without a point, and they face another tricky fixture against relegated Green Lane.

Bolton Villas entertain Ilkley, both sides needing to kick-start their campaigns, while Olicanian will just be hoping for some cricket with the arrival of Knaresborough.

Otley have taken full advantage of finishing their two matches, opening up a three-point lead at the top of Division One.

They have already had telling contributions from several players and will hope that continues against Kirkstall, who were expected to be challenging for the title this year but whose only finish was a defeat by Collingham.

New boys Ben Rhydding face a difficult match against Beckwithshaw, while Burley welcome Adel, both sides having lost their opening match.

Steeton made an encouraging start on their return to the top flight but will be more sure of how they are likely to do when they see how they perform against Follifoot, while defending champions Thackley will hope to pick up the form with which they ended last season.

The early-season chaos means that five clubs are locked on seven points in Division Three, while the remainder have either two or one.

Menston made a solid start and will look to build on that against Illingworth, while Hall Park travel to Silsden looking for a second win.

Tong Park Esholt entertain Skipton, while Horsforth and Addingham face sides tipped to be in the promotion shake-up, Colton and Woodhouse.
