Steeton returned to Division One of the Aire-Wharfe League following a four-year absence with a storming nine-wicket win over Adel.

While several leagues in Yorkshire postponed their matches before the event, Aire-Wharfe managed to complete all but three of theirs even if conditions were far from Caribbean.

Adel seemed set for a solid score when they eased to 86-2 but then Steeton slowed the run-rate and when they dismissed Stuart Howie and ran out Jack Coley with only one run added, things swung their way.

Once they set off in pursuit of the visitors’ 149-8, there was little doubt and Neil Spragg (52no) and John Akrigg (65no) saw them home with 21.3 overs to spare.

Thackley’s Nasser Jamal (5-32) and new signing Yasar Ali (3-43) gave them a great start to the defence of their title, dismissing Bilton for 166.

Majid Khan (46) showed why he has been signed from Batley and Thackley looked set to snatch victory when Bradley Goodaire (32) thumped two sixes with just two overs to go.

But he was then bowled and, facing 11 to win off the last over then losing their ninth wicket, the home side settled for a draw.

Otley were helped to 145-7 thanks to a half-century seventh-wicket stand between Stewart Smith (36no) and Andrew Ross (23). Robbie Miller (42) and Nick Smith (32) led the Ben Rhydding response but the new boys only managed 114-6 and two points.

It was a miserable start for Burley, skittled out for 57 with former Green Lane bowler Yasser Ali picking up 5-9 to set up victory for Beckwithshaw.

Robert Atkinson took 7-29 as Follifoot were bowled out for 97 but Guiseley were struggling at 68-7 when the rain forced the game to be abandoned.

In Division Two, Harden’s Phil Leng (4-43) and James Seymour (4-33) had newly relegated Rawdon struggling at 81-8 before new boy Tony Gilks helped them to 152 with a half century.

That proved crucial because, despite 60 from opener Andrew Wear, Harden were still seven runs short of victory with only one wicket remaining at the close.

Phil Atkinson (47) and Jake Wray (42) top-scored in Green Lane’s 180-9 and Neil Britton (5-19 and M Adeel Ashraf (3-28) had Ilkley struggling at 56-9 but they hung on for a point.

Umer Yaqoob returned to torment Bolton Villas, picking up 5-36, and together with Eddie Clayton (4-11) dismissed the home side for 66 in reply to Bardsey’s 146.

Julian Thornhill scored 56 but struggled to find partners in their 191-7, whereas Barry Singleton (89) and Rob Winter (69no) put on 144 to steer North Leeds to an eight-wicket victory.

Last season Hall Park struggled in Division Three but they got off to a flying start at relegated Tong Park Esholt after Jonathan Postle (4-18) dismissed the home side for 117. Danny Smith (38) led the response as Park clinched victory with five wickets in hand.

Gareth Lee (5-39) restricted Silsden to 139-9 and then hit a lively 71 in Menston’s reply. But when he was stumped with two balls to go, his side still needed three for victory. Ryan Robinson grabbed a single then step forward Jack Ryan who smashed the final ball for six.

Jake Kegworth marked his Horsforth debut with a top score of 26 as they passed Alwoodley’s 54 with seven wickets in hand.
