Leeds/Bradford MCCU had the better of the afternoon session on day one of their first-class match with Yorkshire.

Firstly they recovered from 114-8 to post 211 in their first innings, before reducing the Tykes to 9-1 by the interval at Headingley.

Resuming on 95-5 after lunch, a 95-run partnership for the ninth wicket was the main reason Leeds/Bradford MCCU posted such a total.

Nineteen-year-old Alexander MacQueen did most of the damage with a quickfire 69, while Matt Higginbottom finished unbeaten on 31.

Joe Root was then dismissed for just eight before tea, leaving Yorkshire 192 runs behind the students ahead of the final session.

Joe Sayers will resume on ten, with Bradford-born Anthony McGrath on one.
