Anthony McGrath posted his first century of the season as Yorkshire batted on against Hampshire at the Rose Bowl.

The White Rose county advanced their score from 318-3 at the start of day two to 411-4 from 139 overs at lunch.

Gary Ballance was the only wicket to fall in the morning session of this LV= County Championship relegation battle, bowled by the left-arm spin of Danny Briggs for a county best of 76 off 128 balls.

The left-hander and McGrath shared 157 inside 48 overs for the fourth wicket.

McGrath reached his hundred shortly before the break off 265 balls, including nine fours.

His ninth boundary, a glorious cover drive off the medium pace of Sean Ervine, brought up his milestone.

Yorkshire batted with caution against some tight bowling from the toothless home attack and missed out on two batting points, although Hampshire only claimed one bowling point.

McGrath had been joined by wicketkeeper Gerard Brophy (28no), with the pair adding 50 for the fifth wicket on a flat but slow pitch.
