Honours were even after the opening session of Yorkshire’s LV= County Championship match against Sussex at Hove.
By lunch on day one the hosts had reached 83-2 after the Tykes won the toss and elected to field. Luke Wells was unbeaten on 49, with Murray Goodwin on three.
Yorkshire’s wickets fell to Ajmal Shahzad, who had Chris Nash trapped lbw for 16, and Steve Patterson, who had Joe Gatting brilliantly caught by Joe Sayers at cover for nine.
Sayers is the only change to the Tykes side from the one that got thumped by ten wickets at Somerset. He is in for Adam Lyth, who has been dropped.
