Bradford Ladies got their Women’s Northern League season off to a good start with a comfortable win over Lancashire side Vernon Carus.
VC won the toss and elected to bat in windy conditions at Thornton Cricket Club.
Bradford’s opening bowlers put the pressure on from the start, Anne Miller taking the key wickets of captain Vicky Dean and Gemma Kennedy.
VC had only managed 54-2 at the 20-over mark but some sloppy fielding and loose bowling in difficult conditions let them back in the game and they finished on 143-7.
Bradford opener Wendy Brown rattled up a quickfire 67 and Charlotte Preston played a patient knock of 28 not out to ease Bradford to a five-wicket win.
Bradford’s next match is against Pool on Sunday at Illingworth CC.
