Andrew Gale has admitted that he would have "bitten your hand off" had you offered him the chance of being second in the LV= County Championship and top of their Clydesdale Bank 40 group in the middle of August before the season started.

But now the Yorkshire captain says he is desperate to make sure they finish the season off in style with some sort of silverware.

Ahead of tomorrow night's CB40 match against Group B rivals Gloucestershire at Headingley, Gale commented: "We've probably exceeded expectations. But, if we keep going, there's no reason why we can't win a trophy.

"If you had offered me where we are now before the start of the season, I would have bitten your hand off.

"Now, I guess I'm being greedy because I want to win some silverware.

"We've come so far, so to narrowly miss out would be disappointing. It's been a fantastic season, but we need to kick on and try and be part of something special."

A win against Gloucester under lights would give leaders Yorkshire daylight at the top of the group as they look to secure a semi-final spot.

But the Bristol-based side are the only ones to have beaten them in this competition this season.

Gale continued: "We seem to have found a method that really works for us in this competition, and they're all big games for us now. We look at every game as if they're must-win."

Gale's description of 'must-win' matches includes their four remaining Championship fixtures as well.

The 26-year-old left-handed batsman believes that there are a few form issues to overcome within his squad, but denied that tiredness will be a problem, despite the much maligned schedule of matches.

He said: "I know a few of the lads are struggling for form with the ball. Olly's (Hannon Dalby) fighting a little bit against himself with the ball, for example, Ajmal's a little bit undercooked, while Tino's got a few technical issues going on.

"But I don't think there's a tiredness. Yes, somebody like Steve Patterson has bowled a lot of overs, but he's the sort who gets better the more that he bowls.

"Olly shouldn't have any excuses because he's only played Championship cricket.

"There's only 20 days of cricket left for us in five weeks compared to somebody like Durham who've got seven or eight Championship games left in that time."
