Addingham seek to continue their escape from the doldrums and build on their best start since 2007 when they travel to Menston in the Aire-Wharfe League on Saturday.

Three years ago they won five of their first seven matches – including victories over Thackley, who are now in Division One, and Bolton Villas, now in Division Two.

They also overcame Ben Rhydding, who currently lead Division Three, and the season finished with Addingham just below the promotion places.

But the price for not going up was to lose several of their talented young players and for the past two years Addingham have been rock bottom with only three wins in 44 league fixtures.

But with new overseas player Ricky Palacio settling quickly and some good performances from established players like Darrell Robinson and Richard Hey, they have already notched two victories and are going for three in a row – something they did not even achieve three years ago.

However, they face a tough task against a Menston side currently third in the DIVISION THREE table and only six points behind pace-setters Ben Rhydding.

The leaders also face a difficult match against New Rover, who are always capable of a big score – which could give second-placed Ilkley the chance to make up the four-point difference and maybe to take over top spot if, as expected, they beat Woodhouse.

Skipton could climb out of the bottom two when they take on Alwoodley, whose only point to date has come from Saturday’s abandoned game.

Horsforth should prove too strong for Bardsey but Hall Park will find life harder against a Colton side looking to get back among the front-runners.

In DIVISION ONE, leaders Burley and third-placed Green Lane will be hoping for all six points when they travel to Collingham and Pool respectively.

At the same time they will hope that Thackley can put a dent in the charge of defending champions Beckwithshaw.

Otley’s title credentials face a challenge at Kirkstall Educational but Guiseley should be too strong for North Leeds and Rawdon have the chance to climb off the bottom at home to struggling Adel.

Of the three pace-setters in DIVISION TWO, leaders Harden and third-placed Olicanian will have to work hard to take full points off Upper Wharfedale and Steeton, who are only just off the pace.

Meanwhile, they will be aware that second-placed Bilton should beat Illingworth.

The bottom half of the table is covered by just six points so the clashes between Bolton Villas and Tong Park Esholt, Silsden at Follifoot and Calverley at Knaresborough can have a big effect on placings.
