Former Yorkshire and Somerset all-rounder Jeremy Batty made an instant impact on his Harden debut, starring in a four-wicket Aire-Wharfe League win at Follifoot.

Batty’s 14-over spell produced five cheap wickets and, with Richard Weir weighing in three for 43, the home side were dismissed for 111.

The former county player then top scored with 43 as Harden got the new campaign off to a flying start in DIVISION TWO.

Calverley got the better of Silsden in the clash of the two sides relegated from the top-flight last season.

A devastating spell by Gareth Lee, which included eight maidens in 16.2 overs as he returned four for nine, restricted Silsden to 120.

Calverley had to battle to get home but, with Imran Mirza hitting 72, they finally passed the target with three wickets to spare.

Both promoted sides had an enjoyable day, Bolton Villas winning at Steeton and Olicanian picking up five points after dominating events at Knaresborough.

With Neil Spragg and Gary Boulton each returning four for 25, Villas looked in some danger when they could only put 137 on the board. But Sam Lawrence (5-47) and Chris Spivey (4-44) got to work and skittled the home side for 109.

Peter Hall (72no) and Eddie Brown (64) were the stars of Olicanian’s 216 for nine and, while the bowlers had Knaresborough on the ropes, the home side hung on at 90 for eight to pick up a point.

Tong Park Esholt went down by two wickets in a low-scoring match at Bilton despite the best efforts of Nadeem Hanif, who top scored with 27 and took three wickets.

Nick Brook, who topped the DIVISION ONE bowling averages last season, sent an early warning to batsmen with a spell of five for 31 as Burley crushed Adel by nine wickets. Ian Frost was unbeaten on 67 as Burley passed the visitors’ 131 for nine.

Promoted Thackley found early life hard mainly because of Alex Rose (5-52) as they were restricted to 181 for eight. Josh Atkinson (106no) and Sam Smith (45) then guided opponents Otley to a six-wicket win with six overs to spare.

Philip Atkinson (93) top scored in Green Lane’s 193 for nine but they had to settle for four points as Guiseley’s last pair managed to hang on for the draw.

Menston signalled their intention to have a better season this time round by taking five points off Ilkley, who are among the favourites for promotion from DIVISION THREE.

Adam Campion (96), John Storey (45) and Chris Baldwin (48no) were the main contributors to the home side’s 270 for seven and Baldwin weighed in with three for 29 as Ilkley were restricted to 157 for eight.

Richard Walker (5-49) and Shaid Nadeem (3-36) helped dismiss Ben Rhydding for 149 but Skipton failed to cash in on a promising situation when they crashed from 92 for two to 144 all out. Charlie Swallow (4-29) and Alex Miller (3-34) did most of the damage.

Ricky Palaccio made a promising start to his Addingham career by hitting 65 but he could not prevent them going down to a 90-run defeat against relegated Colton.

Hall Road never looked likely to pass New Rover’s 258 for five but held on for a point despite home wicketkeeper Danny Reuben picking up five victims from Hall Road’s seven wickets to fall.

Wayne Stevens top scored with 41 as Horsforth eased to a five-wicket win at Alwoodley.
