DEEPAL Dissanayake has made an instant impact on his return to Haworth Road Meths.

The opening bat, who was at Aire-Wharfe League club Green Lane in the interim, scored 66 in the Mewies Solicitors Craven League Division One clash at home to Wilsden.

It was by far the dominant innings of the match and, boosted by nine fours and a six, helped Meths to 137 as they chose to have first knock.

Ben Mitchell (4-22), the seventh bowler used, and his brother Sam (3-29), the first, were Wilsden’s most successful bowlers but the less said about the team’s batting the better.

They were rolled over for just 59, with Pete Longley (13) and skipper Sam Mitchell (10) the only players to reach double figures as first change Mohammad Sajjad recorded sensational figures of 8-11 to share the limelight with Dissanayake.

There was a much tighter affair at Cowling, where Hepworth & Idle went down by nine runs.

Jonny Thompson (4-32), Mark Harland (2-8), Alex Robinson (2-27) and Harry Pinkney (2-43) shared the wickets in Cowling’s 132.

After a poor start in their reply, the Westfield Laners were revived by teenagers Ryan Welsh (20) and Jack Bedford (25), as well as keeper Luke Harland (21), only to fall just short.

A mixture of wet outfields and Eid celebrations meant that only six matches started, but Wilsden II conceded to new boys Bowling Baptist in Division Three.
