THE Bradford Mutual Sunday School League are holding an emergency general meeting tomorrow night at Clayton RLFC (7.30) due to the withdrawal of Buttershaw St Paul's' third team.

This will have an impact both on the league's fixtures and their constitution, and options will be put to the meeting and a vote taken.

St Paul's' first two teams play in the Bradford League, and club chairman Ian Gregson said of the withdrawal: "It is not a decision that we have taken lightly, but we have lost seven or eight senior players or older juniors – two or three from the third team but the others from the second team.

"This has only become apparent since Christmas, and what we don't want to do is let the Sunday School League down on a week-to-week basis.

"We have been members since 1982 (and also from 1938-55) and have treated the team as an Academy to bring the younger players through in what is a more relaxed atmosphere in what is more of a social side, but without that hard core of senior players it will prove impossible."

Gregson added: "Players used to play into their late 30s, but now they are packing in in their late 20s or early 30s, and we were asking people to play out of a sense of duty, rather than because they were enjoying it."

Buttershaw St Paul's finished sixth in the bottom division (Group D) last season, winning five of their 21 matches, as well as having two winning draws.
