Yorkshire progressed to 193-4 in the afternoon session of their LV= County Championship match against Surrey at The Oval.

But they will have been annoyed to lose two wickets to the left-arm spin of Zafar Ansari in the Division One contest.

Both the unbeaten batsmen at lunch succumbed to 22-year-old Ansari, Kane Williamson being bowled for 23 and Phil Jaques driving the Cambridge graduate straight to Gareth Batty at short mid-wicket.

The Australian left-hander faced 169 balls and hit 12 fours and a six in his 88.

That dismissal left Yorkshire on 169-4 but England pair Jonny Bairstow and Gary Ballance took them safely to tea, when the white rose county held a slight advantage in their final first-class match of the season.

Ansari and skipper Batty had exerted a measure of control in the afternoon session and it remains difficult to judge what a par score might be on this pitch. Bairstow took tea on 14 and Balance on seven.
